How did the worship of Baal present a temptation or challenge to the monotheistic worship of Yahweh for ancient Israelites?

Perhaps something to do with the ritual practices involving ritual prostitution, sexual acts and sacrifices intended to “stimulate” the god to bring fertility to the land, animals, and people. Plus maybe more indulgent and fun worship involving drunkenness and revelry. Or was this all made up by those following Moses?
